Lindsay's take on the project;
To reinstate the Fireplace we deconstructed 3 years ago we were looking for clean lines to simplify the busy look the brick finish gave. Having chosen rendered Hebel Concrete Panels to ensure we maintained an excellent thermal mass in the central part of the house (to heat in Winter & cool in Summer) the kitchen dining room side of the fireplace looked and felt void of character that a 1932 Bungalow would normally give you.
Reviewing the options for this when I entered the Tile Warehouse, Penrose I was looking for a White Washed Wood Grain tile, that soon moved to a kitchen theme printed tile but once I saw the horizontal (or vertical) wave stone tile I knew it was what the space needed. The stone tiles would still achieve the Thermal Sink as well colour subtleness that didn’t over power the room but give a surface you what to reach out and run your fingers along.
Once I’d purchased the Tiles, I was immediately able to pick them up from the warehouse at the rear of the show room. This is a real bonus for DIYers as normally we go and buy and do that afternoon and waiting for them to get delivered means two trips in Auckland Traffic…
